A little about our club

Our service is to the community of Ulverstone.
The Rotary Club of Ulverstone was chartered in 1957, the club meets weekly on Thursdays at the Beachway Motel at 6 pm for 6:15 start. 1-5 Heathcote Street Rotary is a worldwide organisation of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

What we aim to do

There are over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, non religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world..

Weeks, Wool and Fuzzie Wuzzies

This special story relates to the life-time missionary teacher Ms Jose Koch from Holland who was stationed for 37 years at the Catholic Mission Leper Colony of Yampu in the remote area of western Papua New Guinea adjacent to the border of West Irian.

Having learned of the needs of the Leper Colony people, our Rtn Lyle Weeks embarked on a program of supplying much needed wool to assist in alleviation of the discomfort suffered by the Leprosarium patients.  He undertook the shearing of sheep belonging to suburban dwellers with the understanding that the wool be donated to this cause.
